Meet the Josephs
We've always loved to travel, and history has always been a big part of our lives. Over the years, we've traveled with our four children, their friends, and even exchange students who became part of our family. We've found some unconventional ways to see more of the world, from home exchanges to pet sitting. If there was somewhere we wanted to go, we usually found a way to get there.
We don't always travel in exactly the same way. Dayna is perfectly capable of spending hours in a castle, cathedral or museum, reading every sign, wandering down every corridor, and returning to a favorite place again and again. John is remarkably patient about it. We both enjoy history, but there's no question which one of us needs to know what happened, why it happened, who was involved, and what happened to them afterward.
That curiosity runs deep. Dayna holds a master's degree in history, with a thesis on royal succession during the Wars of the Roses, the same story that runs through our England 2027 tour.
Our different styles have taught us a lot about traveling well. There's a balance between seeing everything you can and leaving enough time to enjoy what you're seeing. We don't want to spend a trip watching the clock, rushing through a site because the coach leaves in twenty minutes, or arriving somewhere wonderful only to find there's barely time to look around.
That's why we created Travel with the Josephs. We plan the kinds of trips we'd want to take ourselves: small groups, carefully chosen places, comfortable hotels, and itineraries that leave room to wander, linger, and occasionally read every plaque.
We're not trying to see how many stops we can fit into a day. We'd rather see fewer places and remember them.
And if, after the trip, someone asks who you traveled with, we hope you'll smile and say, "We went with the Josephs
Our Travel Philosophy
We design our tours around the way we like to travel, and around what many travelers dislike about traditional group tours. Cramming as many places as possible into a single day has never been our idea of a great vacation.
Years ago, we took a tour from London to Stonehenge, Windsor and Oxford, all in one day. We saw Stonehenge, the outside of Windsor Castle because there wasn't time to go in, and barely more than a street in Oxford before it was time to get back on the bus. More recently, a trip to Costa Rica had us spending more time on the bus than at the places we'd come to see.
We don't want to travel that way, and we don't think you should have to either.
On our tours, the coach ride isn't the main event. We give you time to actually experience each place: to explore a castle, meander through a cathedral, read the stories, take photographs, stop for tea or lunch, and stay a little longer when somewhere captures your imagination.
And yes, there's time for the gift shop. Browse the books, find the perfect souvenir, or pick up something special for yourself.
We believe in the quality of the experience, not the quantity of stops. We want you to remember the castles you explored, the stories you discovered and the moments you enjoyed, not the view from the coach window.
